To personalise information so as to enhance the user's experience of the web site.

-
To contact the user to verify that the information is incorrect or incomplete.
-
To contact the user once the information has been updated.
-
The user's contact details may be forwarded to a third party if the information in question is managed by that third party.
When purchasing Legal Credits
We do not ask the user to provide any personal billing information when purchasing Legal Credits nor do we collect or store Credit Card information. This is handled for us by our credit card processing partner. Please see our security statement for further information.
User Profile
We store information that we collect through the above mechanisms to create a profile of our users. A profile contains personal information that the user supplies as well as details of their viewing preferences. This profile is used to track the user's visits to our web site and to customise marketing promotions.
The information stored in a user's profile, either provided by the user or collected by us, is kept confidential and is used only in support of our relationship with the user. This information will not be disclosed or sold to any outside entity without first obtaining the user's permission.
Cookies
A cookie is a piece of data stored on the user's computer tied to information about that user. Usage of a cookie is in no way linked to any personally identifiable information while on our web site. Legal City uses session ID cookies which are deleted when a user closes his or her browser.
Some of our business partners may use cookies on our web site (e.g. advertisers). However, we have no access to or control over these cookies once we have given permission for them to set cookies for advertising.
Log Files
Like most standard web site servers we use log files. This includes internet protocol (IP) addresses, browser type, platform type, date/time stamp, and number of clicks to analyze trends, administer the site, track users' movement through the site, and gather broad demographic information for aggregate use. The information stored in the log files is not linked to personally identifiable information.
Communications from the Site
We send all new registering users a welcoming email to verify their registration.
Registered users will occasionally receive information on products, services, special deals, and our newsletter. Out of respect for the privacy of our users we present the option to no longer receive these types of communications.
On occasion it may be necessary to send out a service related announcement or technical notice. For instance, if a new service is launched we will send users an email notifying them of this addition to the web site. Users may not opt-out of these communications and they are not promotional in nature.
Disclosure of Information
Though we make every effort to preserve user privacy, we may need to disclose personal information when required by law wherein we have a good-faith belief that such action is necessary to comply with a current judicial proceeding, a court order or legal process served on our web site.
For example: In terms of the South African "Promotion of Access to Information Act of 2000" we are required by law to provide contact information when requested to do so in accordance with Section 50 and Section 51 of the Act. This would be the case when Legal City performs a service on behalf of a user and is then requested to provide details of the user on whose behalf we performed the function.
We use an outside shipping company to ship orders, and a credit card processing company to bill users for goods and services. These companies have assured us that do not retain, share, store or use personally identifiable information for any secondary purposes.
In the event that the owners or operators of the site go through a business transition, such as a merger, being acquired by another company, or selling a portion of its assets, users' personal information will, in most instances, be part of the assets transferred.
Choice and Opt-out
We have no desire or intention to infringe on our users privacy while they use our web site and we will never provide their personal information to anyone else without their prior consent.
Users who no longer wish to receive our newsletter and promotional communications may opt-out of receiving these communications by using the subscribe / unsubscribe facility found under User Information > Edit your Details.
Users of our web site are always notified when their information is being collected by any outside parties. We do this so our users can make an informed choice as to whether or not they should proceed with services that require an outside party.
