Various organisations have advice offices and bureaux in towns
and cities around the country to help people with legal and other
problems. Staff are not lawyers, but many have some training and
a wide experience of dealing with common problems such as
divorce, pension and social grant problems, disputes between
property owners and tenants or between workers and employers,
disputes on custody of children and repossession of goods bought
on instalment sale. (See credit agreements.)
While they may offer advice, sometimes write letters or make
telephone calls on your behalf, and certainly refer you to the
appropriate authority, only certain institutions will be willing
to take further action. (See legal advice; legal aid.)
