Advocate
A member of the legal profession, also known as 'counsel' and said to practise at the Bar, the advocate is entitled to appear in any court and before certain other tribunals such as licensing boards. The advocate's work is confined to litigation (the preparation for cases and their presentation in court) and the giving of legal opinions. He or she does not take work directly from the public and must be instructed by an attorneyI.
